Altitudes is a flash fiction series from Highwind Press featuring short works that rise above the ordinary. Each issue collects stories that carry emotional resonance, clarity of vision, and unexpected lift.
These are stories written in the space between breath and sky—brief, bright, and aloft.
The collection will publish quarterly, but we accept submissions year-round. Aside from adherence to the general theme of the project, that of emotional elevation and perspective, submissions will be considered on a case-by-case basis in adherence with the following policies:
- Submissions must be sent to contact@highwindpress.ca (in a .PDF or .docx format).
- Flash Fiction submissions are limited to a maximum of 1,000 words. They can certainly be shorter.
- All genres are welcome, but scenes of graphic violence or erotica will not be considered.
- Due to limited resources in managing this ongoing project, only a selection of submissions will be published, no matter the overall number and/or quality of submissions received. Only those selected will be contacted.
There are no barriers to entry, we allow for simultaneous submissions, and we encourage all writers to submit. Whether you've previously published creative writing or not, hold a Nobel Prize in literature, or even if your mom is the only person to have read your work but she told you that its great, we want to hear from you!
Altitudes is a free digital download, and we regret that we will not be able to compensate authors published in the digital anthology. However, it is an opportunity to publish your work in an active writing community: a flight path for your words to get under the eyes of readers. Further, print compilations of select stories will eventually be published, and all authors selected for inclusion in a print collection will be remunerated.
See you up there,
